When inviting people over for a gathering like this, we do have the choice to serve a menu with a first, second and third course, since the number of people facilitates us. It’s easier to serve your guests separately instead of a buffet, even though it makes the night feel a bit more formal.
It would make our party even more interesting if we paid a bit more attention to decorating the table inspired by the style of the dishes, the guests, where we will be eating, or the season (living room or balcony/garden, during Christmas time/Carnival/Easter/Lent, etc.)
I suggest that you avoid making a recipe you have never tried before. A choice like that would only make you more nervous and can even turn the party into a failure. Choose dishes you have both cooked and tasted before, as your favorites are the only ones suitable for your birthday dinner/lunch anyway.
If you don’t have time to make one of the courses, skip desert as you can always order something from your favorite pastry shop. Make sure you also have some of your favorite songs playing while your guests are over, giving the dinner/lunch an even more celebrative touch.
Birthdays I believe are ideal for surprises. So, in case you are organizing the dinner for someone else’s big day a great idea would be to have little gifts ready or invite friends without the person knowing and through a surprise party or even plan a hidden treasure game, that would give a more playful touch to the night.
The most important think is the one who is celebrating to be happy and enjoy a night that has been planned according to their liking and style. When planning for someone else, don’t try weird stuff, that could ruing the day depending on what you would like. It will be a shame… (just joking!). You can find more advice on a topic like this from my “inviting guests over” theme menu, but for now I have linked some recipes I think would be ideal for your party:
Broccoli Soup with Blue Cheese
Chicken Pie with Peppers and Graviera Cheese
Potatoes with Sausage and Cheese Sauce
Our “theme menus” and “tips” always have new additions to inspire and help you. Don’t hesitate to send me all your questions and comments, and I will be replying soon.
