I think it’s truly a given that summer nights have their own kind of magic charm. Don’t you agree? They’re asking for candles, rumba music, cocktails and delicate flavors. The quantities are smaller during this time, as the heat usually doesn’t really help with digestion.
As during the summer and especially while on holidays, our pace is usually slower, the night calls for couches or armchairs, iced drinks, two platters with a variety of finger food and music. One of the platters will consist of vegetables and fruit and the other one will include cheeses, marmalades and bread sticks. To me this is the perfect combo when relaxing on the porch.
Set your imagination free and prepare a variety of finger foods with whatever you have available at home. Keep the lights low and light aromatic candles. Decorate your balcony with ribbons and place your candles in glass bowls to enhance the light as they will reflect on the glass.
For a more bohemian touch to your night, lay down on a blanket or a straw carpet surrounding your selves with pillows, or sit and relax on top of poufs.
For a more formal version of your summer night you could always choose recipes with ingredients such as fish or vegetables linked to summer. I would suggest that you don’t make many different dishes but focus on one main dish for this menu, a salad and maybe a lighter cool desert.
During summer I would recommend that you choose easier recipes so that you don’t have to stay in the kitchen for hours.
